Nebraska's hands-on science museum bears the name of one of Aurora's famous native sons, Dr. Harold Edgerton, a scientist, educator and inventor. “Doc” Edgerton is known internationally as the father of flash photography and developer of the strobe light and side scan solar. His distinguished career at MIT and his research led him to work with many renowned organizations and individuals.

The Edgerton Explorit Center is devoted to providing fun, hands-on learning opportunities for people of all ages. The center provides exhibits, activities, special events, camps and tour programs which offer countless opportunities for discovery and exploration.
Explorit Zone - This gallery filled with interactive exhibits gives visitors insight into many different scientific principles and phenomenon. Several permanent exhibits demonstrate strobe technology's value in seeing the world unseen with normal light. Many other hands-on exhibits and experiment stations rotate through the gallery regularly, adding variety and new opportunities for learning in a fun environment.
Strobe Ally - The history of Doc's achievements are told through two movies now showing at the Center. Strobe Alley also houses Dr. Edgerton's historic photographs, lab equipment and historical information. Among the items displayed are the renowned milk drop and the bullet passing through an apple photographs, along with one of his favorite traveling demonstrations, “The Double Piddler“.
